Phase

From learning language to using language as a tool for thinking, expressing, and creating.

The Vowel Team: Mastery of complex vowel combinations (au, aw, eigh, ough) and variant spellings.
Root words: Understanding word meaning through structure.
Syllabification: Breaking long words into syllables, introduction to common syllable patterns.
Morphology ("Phonics" meets "Vocabulary."): We look at how prefixes and suffixes change word sounds and meanings.
Prefixes: un-, re-, dis-, pre-.
Suffixes: -ful, -less, -ly, -ness, -ment.
Orthographic Mapping: Mastering "Heart Words" (irregular high-frequency words) and homophones (their/there/they're) through visual memory and usage.

Sentence Synthesis: Moving beyond simple sentences to Compound and Complex sentences using coordinating conjunctions (FANBOYS) and relative clauses (who, which, that).
The Paragraph Blueprint: Organizing thoughts into a clear structure - Topic Sentence, Supporting Details, and a Concluding Statement.
Genre Crafting: Introduction to Informational Reports and Opinion Pieces, focusing on the use of evidence and "reasoning" words.
The Editing Station: A focus on punctuation mechanics (commas in lists, apostrophes for possession) and "Word Choice Upgrading" (replacing "overused" verbs with "vibrant" ones).
The Stylistic Palette: Introducing Adverbs of Manner and Relative Pronouns to add sophistication and connectivity to writing.
Prepositions: (position & movement).
Conjunctions: (and, but, because, so).
Tenses: Simple and continuous Tense to improve grammatical accuracy
Narrative Design: Learning the "Story Mountain" - structuring a beginning (hook), middle (climax), and end (resolution) with purpose.
Genre Crafting: Introduction to Informational Reports and Opinion Pieces, focusing on the use of evidence and "reasoning" words.

The Narrative Studio: Diary Writing, Descriptive Writing, short story writing to bridge the gap between "Grammar" and "Voice".
Inference & Detective Literacy: Analyzing texts to find "hidden meanings" using the formula: Text Clues + Prior Knowledge = Inference.
Oral Storytelling & Performance: Practicing Prosody (expression, emphasis, and rhythm) through poetry slams, Reader's Theater, and oral presentations.
Collaborative Dialogue: Learning the art of the "Socratic Seminar"- asking open-ended questions, listening actively, and building upon the ideas of others.
The Listener’s Lens: Active listening & synthesis by retelling in own words and summarising key ideas.
